If you're only buying one, buy this one
(August 25, 2013)
"This is my third Lonely Planet guide book and I totally recommend it for anyone planning an around the world trip and is a bit overwhelmed or doesn't know where to start. It's incredibly detailed - where to start, what to pack, what to do in emergencies and what it's going to feel like coming home. It has first hand accounts from Lonely Planet staff who travelled when they were young and even has itineraries for peeps feeling too lazy to plan their own. If you only buy one guide book buy this one."

Review 2 for The Big Trip By Lonely Planet
Cool for pre-trip planning stuff

"If you're not yet sure of where you're going or what you should be doing for your gap year, then I definitely recommend getting this book. It's pretty handy for all you need to know about places you might like to go, and things you should be doing before your trip.
The other really good thing about this book is that it's completely international, so it's got AUD, USD, & GBP. And not only that, but it's got really simple conversions of what you should be expecting from your money overseas (handy for those that are budget travellers!)
This book is not really for planning, but for pre-planning and if you've done your research right you probably won't need it.
But aside from that, it's pretty good if you're after some inspiration for your gap year!"
"this book is definitely the first step you should take if you're planning on traveling. it has a ton of tips you would never think of for saving money & actual destinations to travel to instead of always traveling to the cliche paradise islands. the recommend great places to stay in, party, eat, etc. lonely planet is definitely the go-to company for any traveling advice."
