It sucks.

"Mine started to skip after a few months so I did an exchange. The manager was great and went the extra mile and no way can he be blamed. He got a new one off the shelf, tested it, it went too slow and was defective. Then he got another off the shelf, it worked! But when I went home and played a record, on every single LP, the arm won't reach the last song. The auto reset arm will skip and stop and reset before the last song is over. I'm going to exchange this for the Cruiser because it's too late to get my money back."

Low Expectations Meet Low Realities

"I'm a passive audiophile, meaning I know good sound, but I don't HAVE to have it in all situations. I understood before buying this that I should not expect much (especially after reading the spotty reviews on Amazon). As my first test, I put on The Beatles Abbey Road and thought "this isn't as bad as some reviews have said". The volume is acceptable for a small room with a few people (otherwise you'll need to hook it up to a receiver). The sound is kind of cheap, but in a cool-gritty-vinyl kind of way. So I'm thinking, "what a bunch of snobs to post negative reviews about the sound. What else would you expect from something like this?". Then I flipped the record to side two. I've heard "Here Comes the Sun" a million times, so I couldn't help but to notice that it played a hair to slow. It concerned me that this would only get worse over time as the belt wore out, but I figured it would be fine for now. Then I put on a 7" (Husker Du - Eight Miles High) and the song abruptly cut off when the needle got close to the end of the side. I'd read several reviews about this happening, but I figured that can't be true! But no, it's annoyingly true. Then the buzzing started. Then the left channel went out. This all happened within an hour of me taking it out of the box. Even if you don't experience any of these problems when you first use one of these, I have a feeling it's only a matter of time before you will. Luckily it happened to mine so I could return it. You've been warned."

"I've wanted a turntable for a long time, and this is perfect! I love the vintage look, and it plays records beautifully. It's really easy to use, too. I'm glad I saved up my paychecks for this... well worth it!
I would highly recommend it to anyone who is wanting to start a vinyl collection or just needs a nice new turntable :)"

"Having doubt in the purchase after reading all the unpleasant reviews about this product I went ahead an purchased this. After carefully reading through the instructions on what and how to start playing a record, it worked great. Not one problem and excelled my expectations. Plenty loud enough and looks great as a decorative piece in any room."

"The first one I bought played every song extremely slowly no matter what speed it was set at. I returned it and got another one. The second player turned on but would not spin, no matter what I tried. Once again, I returned that player and got a third one. NOW this one played perfectly at first but after an hour started making really strange clicking noises and then started screeching. DO NOT waste your money. First time having trouble with an Urban Outfitters product. Ugh. Off to return this record player........."

"This has to be quite possibly the worst purchase I have ever made. The turntable looks awesome but the sound quality is absolutely ridiculous. So disappointing. Please do not be fooled by its appearance, do not waste your money on this over-priced piece of junk."

I absolutely love this player that was given to me as a gift! It plays all of my vinyls flawlessly in the record player quality I was anticipating (and love) with the old-fashioned edge. I got the green and yellow beige one and it's a very beautiful and pleasant addition to my room. I've been playing my vinyls on it for a while now and I have been having no issues with this player. For the price of $160, I'd say it's a great buy. [Picture attached]

I was determined and I didn't want to give up. A lot of reviews say that it's a "junk" but for the price you pay, it's really not. Most people I assume order from online. If it comes defected to you, it may also be the the delivery/shipment and it could have been bouncing around which caused the imperfections. This is a delicate product and it does need to be cared for.

Honestly, if you're expecting a CD HD quality sound from this, it's not "HD". This is a record player, not a CD. It's supposed to have a vintage old-fashioned edge to the sound quality. Some people complain of it being "too low" or having an odd sound; you need to put it on the highest speed and change the tone to calibrate the sound. It plays fine. :)
You can't ask too much from $160. You're going to have to spend more if you want a "better" player. Also, the picture shows the lid standing up; it doesn't stand up unless you lean it against a wall, but it is removable~
This is a great gift and I recommend it for anyone who likes classic/vintage finds and appreciates vinyls. :]"

"I received this as a gift from my grandma for Christmas and it sound terrible! I have a feeling the turn table is warped since it seems to sound like it is playing at different speeds? I emailed Urban Outfitters and am hoping they can help us somehow, but after reading these reviews, I am definitely skeptical :("

"I loved how this record player looked, so I bought it. Perhaps the worst decision of my life- should have read these reviews, should have looked for a player with function over appearance. The sound quality of the turntable is dreadful, and the speed changes frequently as a record plays, leading to ugly drops and pitch changes. Dust collects on the needle very easily which can scratch the vinyls, but if you clean the needle too aggressively, it simply snaps off and won't work again. Believe these reviews, do NOT purchase this contraption. I wish I could return mine."

Third times the charm

"I had to buy this record player three times before I got one that would work. The first time the arm was messed up so it had a distorted sound and the second time it didn't turn at all. I decided to give it another chance and so far it works fine. It's not the best sound quality in the world but that's what you would expect from a record player of this kind. If you want excellent sound quality you're going to have to get a better player that most likely won't play on it's own and requires a receiver and speakers. I needed an relatively inexpensive and compact record player for my apartment and this player is perfect for that. When I graduate college, I will definitely upgrade to a nicer, better sounding player but for the timing being this works. If you're just looking for something simple that doesn't require anything extra, this is a good player for that (provided that it works)."

"Bought it broken (turntable was all warped). Returned it without a problem. I purchased the same record player and it wouldn't even turn on. Again, returned it without a problem. I didn't bother buying another one because it's a hunk of junk."

"Really was excited to get this home and use this after i bought it. Right when I started using it I noticed the cheap quality. Tried to hook it up to several external speakers (so you already know they are good quality) and the noise came out distorted and unreasonable. I compared it to my friend's turntable and hooked it up the the external speakers and it sounded amazing and high quality. I'll be returning it soon."

"I just got this as a gift and I was so excited! I opened it up and prepared everything only to find the speakers were defective. The loudest it would go was above a whisper. Though very cute don't get it. It's very poor quality"

"splurged and bought this for myself for the holidays, and i am so happy i did! i ordered it online, & it was received very well packaged & looking great. after we opened it, it worked perfectly! we have been listening to it for what feels like 3 days straight. it has great volume and we can hear it all through our 2 bedroom apartment.
the only slight complaint is the top of the case doesn't attach well to the base. the hook mechanism is very odd and it doesn't seem that it is supposed to stay there. with that being said, we just leave it off when playing records. i would also like to note, i haven't tested the USB/MP3 extras yet.
you should splurge & buy it!

"I decided to get this record player for my husband's birthday and it's been nothing but great!! I was a little concerned because of some of the negative reviews but I'm very happy I took my chances! I love the style of player! I searched allll over the internet and couldn't find anything like it anywhere else. The sound is great and it definitely plays loud enough. EVERYTHING was broken when I received it

"SO disappointed! I've wanted a record player for quite some time, and I was jumping for joy when I saw this on the site. A little pricey, but I fell in love with it! When I opened it up, I noticed around where the arm is, it was completely torn up from the player. It was chipped all around the edges, and unnaturally wobbly. I thought maybe it was supposed to be like this, but when I plugged it in and put a record on it, it was so screechy (and I'm talking cover your ears because omg), and the songs had a strange echo to them, like I was playing it twice. And I know it wasn't the records that were wrong, because I have a new (and much better) record player now and they play perfectly! As much as I wanted to like it, I returned it. So sad such a cute record player is made so poorly :("

"I went to the store in Austin, Tx on Guadalupe and bought the record player. I live hours away from Austin and I was skeptical about purchasing it at first because I've been warned about the quality of electronic products at this store but after being a customer for nearly 8 years I gave it a shot. I got home opened the box and was shocked to see everything out of place, including the screws, the needle, and many scratches on it. It looks like a refurbished version. Very disappointed in urban outfitters and the way they handle their electronics..I hope once I return it I can get a full refund and come back and edit my review."
