Jigsaw Puzzle
"After an estimated hour trying to assemble this piece of furniture, I began to think that the mismatched drilled holes/brackets would have to be completely re-drilled to make the legs fit. Then, in a last-ditch effort, I tried a different leg on a different corner and it fit. I realized that each leg is specifically matched to a corner, but it does not specify so in the instructions. Once assembled, the bench looks great in the living room. We use it as a sort of room divider so that we can view our fireplace or TV, which are on opposite walls. I'm only 5'2", so it makes a great place to take a nap, too. Overall I'm very happy with the bench; but I am disappointed in the effort required to assemble it."

very nice design NYC
"Design is handsome and the wood feels sturdy. BUT it came missing a bolt and it was difficult to assemble. If you're not strong and handy, don't buy it."

Love it!
"I must be the only person that got all the correct parts. I am 7 months pregnant and it took me all of 20 minutes to get it out of the box, put it together and move it to the bedroom. It's very sturdy and doesn't wobble at all. I love it! I wish the base was "pretty" looking but my pillow top covers most of it. I'm going to use it as a daybed/ sofa and it's perfect! The stain color is true to the picture. I'm glad it didn't come damaged because the box was extremely beat up when I got it."

Ppor Design
"My review echoes Loft's exactly -- tattered packaging, poorly matched brackets and bolts -- except that mine had the added benefit of a platform completely detached from the frame, which meant more than 30 small, sharp nails poking out of the wood. I had to unscrew, move, and re-screw the brackets to attach the legs, in addition to re-nailing the platform to the frame. Once it's all together, it looks great, but the construction process was definitely frustrating."

After waiting for this to go on sale
"all I can say is that I'm glad I didn't buy it when it was full price. The over-sized shipping fee was $75, and for that, it arrived broken. It wasn't anything that couldn't be fixed upon putting it together, but when you're paying almost as much in shipping as you do for the product, I don't think it's asking too much for it to arrive in mint condition.

It is shipped with the platform and frame in once piece (this is what was broken - the platform had become detached from the frame in places) and the four legs are separately. Once the legs were attached, I was able to hammer the platform back in place. Additionally, the frame was cracked by one of the corners (which presumably occurred during construction), though I don't expect that to be a problem during use.

In theory, the design is a good one - I do like the legs, which are each carved out of one solid piece of wood - and it is a good-looking piece. However, in practice, I think the design was executed poorly and the craftsmanship was somewhat shoddy.

I would recommend buying this if you've had your eye on it for a while and are somewhat handy (to fix anything that may come loose during shipping). On the other hand, I would NOT recommend it if you are paying full price and/or don't have the time or the inclination to do more than attach the legs.

Fair warning
"I will start by saying that this might be worth getting. You might luck out and have nothing wrong with your purchase or are perfectly willing to fix the production flaws yourself. I actually feel that I will get lots of use out of this cushion platform. I must say the wood that was used to create it is nice and dense. This is not MDF or cheap laminate, and as such it is very heavy. Taking into account that quality wood was used, any repairs or modifications you might make to the piece would hold up better. Oh, and since you can't really tell from the picture, the legs on the platform are quite substantial, are wonderfully heavy, and are carved out of a single piece of wood. They are also stamped to correspond to their proper corner as they are each at least partly handcrafted.

Now on to the flaws. The packing could not be worst. Well, I guess it could be worst since the product actually arrived unmarred, to everyone's surprise. It's not ever a good sign when the delivery guy tells you he can be back tomorrow to pick it up and send it back. The problem is it's weight and awkward size. This thing should really be shipped freight and not be trusted to the combined resilience of cardboard and it's own structure to survive the trip. I could not count how many times the box was taped and re-taped and it was still falling apart.

Poor shipping, however, does not speak much to the actual construction. This is the major hit-or-miss problem with the platform. The overall wood construction is passable and as I mentioned above, the legs are handsome and individually fitted to the frame. That is where the problem lies. The bracket and bolt configuration is rather fussy. On the product I received, it is fussy to the point where I shall have to manually enlarge the bracket holes by a millimeter simply to get the legs on. Luckily, I have a my disposal a metals shop that has plenty of tools accomplish this. I also recommend that you use a ratchet to put it together even though they provide a wrench in the box. It is quite difficult to get the proper angle on the fussy bolts with the wrench. You will need a number 18 metric. The bolts are also cheaply produced and are quite easily stripped so be careful. On the plus side, the entire bracket and bolt setup could be removed and replaced with something of higher quality if you so desired.

All things considered, this platform is good for what it is. I think I would really have to abuse this guy to damage it. I really appreciate the lines and overall feel of this piece. The color is warm and lovely and it has a wonderful waxed finish. I would recommend this product to a friend, but then again, all my friends are crafty. Good luck with your purchases!
